Enter the 2012 Red Ribbon Theme Contest Today

Will your bright idea be celebrated across the country during the 2012 Red Ribbon Week?

Send us your ideas for the 2012 Red Ribbon Theme Contest today.

Entries must be received by December 1st, 2011, via email to info@nfp.org or via mail to National Family Partnership, 2490 Coral Way, Miami, FL 33145. Please include your name, school, telephone number and email address. Winners will be announced February 15, 2012.

All entries become property of the National Family Partnership. Note: NFP reserves the right to select the theme or design from one submission and match it with another submitted theme or design. In that case, there will be two contest winners.

Helpful Hints

Red Ribbon Week is celebrated in schools across America, where banners and signs are hung from marquees and fences. Whatever the theme or design you create should fit well within that context.

Themes should be brief and as catchy as possible. This year's theme is "It's Up To Me To Be Drug Free." Last year’s theme was “I Am Drug Free: Choices = Consequences.” Other recent theme slogans include “100% Me Drug Free,” “Look At Me I’m Drug Free” and “Drug Free Is The Key.”

While the red ribbon should be prominently featured in the design, don’t be afraid to use other colors, as well.

Entries should include a Red Ribbon in the design. The actual ribbon should be a double looped ribbon, as opposed to a single loop. (please refer to Red Ribbon logo on www.redribbon.org/downloads)

Our affiliates are a diverse group of local and state non-profits, community coalitions & parent groups, who are committed to substance abuse prevention in their respective communities.

Our affiliates are a diverse group of local and state non-profits, community coalitions & parent groups, who are committed to substance abuse prevention in their respective communities.

These organizations range from small parent groups that consist of a few concerned parents and citizens in small towns and in rural areas across our nation, to large local, state and national organizations that can reach large metropolitan areas.

This grassroots network is as diverse as our nation, representing and serving every culture, race, religion, socio-economic and lifestyle background in our country. These committed groups are the heartbeat of our partnership and are the true reason that our message is delivered effectively. It’s all about reaching people where they are, in their community in a way they can understand but most importantly so they will take action!

We encourage you to get involved and support our affiliates in your respective communities or to join us in our effort to reach families with our substance abuse prevention message.

Why you?

You know the issue. You have the desire and passion to do something about it. You have an organization to back you up. And now you have high-quality campaign materials to make your own. Download campaign materials here.

As an affiliate of the National Family Partnership, we invite you to participate in this national movement to make people aware of the problem so they can prevent others from abusing prescription drugs. Perhaps you have lacked the resources to create a campaign or you need assistance in conducting market research and developing high-impact graphic materials or TV commercials. This has now been done for you. At the same time, you want the campaign to be yours...to be local. It’s easy to put your logo, your slogan, or your contact information on all the materials. You can “own” it as a National Family Partnership affiliate.

Finally, we need you! While the NFP can produce materials, we need you to distribute them. Through our affiliate network and the support of the media that you will generate, we have the ability to truly make this a national campaign.

Current Red Ribbon Affiliates

Oregon -- Oregon Partnership

Chicago -- Archdiocese of Chicago

Florida -- Informed Families - The Florida Family Partnership

California -- CADFY Californians for Drug Free Youth

Kansas -- Central Kansas Foundation

National -- National Association of School Resource Officers

San Diego, California -- Californians for Drug-Free Youth

Bloomfield, Connecticut -- Capital Area Substance Abuse Council

Miami, Florida -- Informed Families

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Drug Free America Foundation

Chicago, Illinois -- Archdiocese of Chicago

Evansville, Indiana -- Family Partnership Against Drugs

Salina, Kansas -- Central Kansas Foundation

Topeka, Kansas -- Kansas Family Partnership

Jackson, Mississippi -- DREAM, Inc.

Jefferson City, Missouri -- ACT Missouri

Raleigh, North Carolina -- SouthLight

Columbus, Ohio -- Drug Free Action Alliance

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma -- Jim Thorpe Association

Portland, Oregon -- Oregon Family Partnership

Greenville, South Carolina -- Greenville Family Partnership

Rapid City, South Dakota -- Adolescent Substance Abuse Prevention, Inc.

About Us

The National Family Partnership organized the first Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign. NFP provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Celebration. Nancy Reagan was the honorary Chairman of NFP. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world.

NFP History: A Proud Beginning

National Family Partnership, formerly the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth, was established as a grassroots, nonprofit organization in 1980 by a handful of concerned and determined parents who were convinced they should begin to play a leadership role in drug prevention. Nancy Reagan was an Honorary Chair of NFP. Since its founding thirty years ago, NFP has devoted its efforts to the well-being of youth. Today, NFP is a national leader in drug prevention education & advocacy. Our mission is to lead and support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth.

NFP Partners: A Strong Network

National Family Partnership’s work is recognized through its growing network of nearly 100 Partners, consisting on local coalitions, PTO groups, and parent committees. NFP State and Community Partners are organizations in which parents, youth, and other volunteers share and maximize resources, information and ideas. As our network of parents strives to work in local communities, NFP will strive to support and continue to build groups at the grassroots level, serving as a resource and a national voice.

NFP Drug Prevention: What We Do

AWARENESS – NFP provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Celebration. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction cause by drugs in America. In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.

ADVOCACY – NFP is active in bringing the concerns and agenda of America’s parents and families to policy makers on a local, state, and national level. Joining NFP enables parents and coalitions to have direct access to our nation’s leaders and decision makers.

RESOURCES – Our organization acts as a national clearinghouse of prevention literature. NFP has developed a series of prevention brochures to help educate our Partners with all the latest information on our Universal Campaigns such as: Red Ribbon Campaign, Red Ribbon Certified Schools, Lock Your Meds , and Safe Homes / Safe Parties.

About the Red Ribbon Campaign

The National Family Partnership organized the first Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign. NFP provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Celebration.

Enrique (Kiki) Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. When he decided to join the US Drug Enforcement Administration, his mother tried to talk him out of it. "I'm only one person", he told her, "but I want to make a difference."

On Feb. 7, 1985, the 37-year-old Camarena left his office to meet his wife for lunch. Five men appeared at the agent's side and shoved him in a car. One month later, Camarena's body was found. He had been tortured to death.

In honor of Camarena's memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin. Parents, sick of the destruction of alcohol and other drugs, had begun forming coalitions. Some of these new coalitions took Camarena as their model and embraced his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions also adopted the symbol of Camarena's memory, the red ribbon.

In 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. Since that time, the campaign has reached millions of U.S. children and families. The National Family Partnership (NFP) and its network of individuals and organizations continue to deliver his message of hope to millions of people every year, through the National Red Ribbon Campaign.

<img src="http://redribbon.org/icon_document.png" alt="Learn More About Red Ribbon.
